Essential Skills for Child Care

Brief Program Description
This short-term program aims to develop the right skills for child care providers who will work with
infants/children of various physical and emotional abilities. The courses were developed to educate,
prepare, and train learners to be a valuable help to mothers so they can intentionally focus on their own
well-being and their family’s needs. The learners will have extensive knowledge on taking care of infants,
children, and mothers. They will also be trained on effectively working and communicating with the family.

Admission Requirements
• Applicants must be at least 19 years of age prior to start of the study period, or must have graduated
from grade 12 (or equivalent), AND
• Applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency results with minimum score of CLB
4 in all 4 abilities – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

38 hours over 9.5 weeks
Homework Hours
1 to 2 hours per week
Delivery Methods
Combined delivery (both in-class and distance): Instruction is provided through a combination of in-class
and distance delivery, both synchronous and asynchronous.
